Complete text of Du’a’ Kumayl in Arabic with Trasliteration and English Translation
The Du’a al-Kumayl is specifically recited for “protecting against the evil of enemies, for opening the gate of one’s daily bread and for the forgiveness of sins. Great is Thy kingdom and exalted is Thy snglish Thy plan is secret, Thy authority is manifest, Thy might is victorious and subduing and Thy power is prevalent throughout and it is not possible to escape from Thy dominion.

And over tongues voicing sincerely the profession of Your Unity and giving thanks to You in praise. You put into effect through me a decree in which I followed the caprice of my own soul. My God and my Protector! In contrast, a du’a, or mental prayer, is a private, inward prayer often of meditation, fikr.
And calls to You with the tongue of those who profess Your Unity. Whosoever intendeth evil against me, let ill befall on him and frustrate him who plots against me and assign for me a place in Thy presence with the best of Thy bondsmen and nearer abode to Thee, for verily that position cannot be attained except through Thy grace and treat me benevolently, and through Thy greatness extend.
Dua-e-Kumayl with English Translation – دُعَاء كُميل
O Allah, forgive me for those sins which draw down adversities! I ask You by Your Truth and Your Holiness And the greatest of Your Engliah and Names, That You makest my times in the night and the day inhabited by Your remembrance, And joined to Your service And my works acceptable to You, So that my works and my litanies may all be a single litany And my occupation with Your service everlasting.
Rather We hurl the truth against falsehood, and it crushes its head The Du’a is not an exclusively Shi’a dua, however, as none of its content is controversial among Shi’a and Sunni schools of thought. So, in what was put into effect through me in that situation, I transgressed some of Your statutes.
Nor it is similar to the goodness and kindness Thou hast shown to those who profess Your Unity. I implore Thee by Thy greatness not to let my kumaip and my misdeeds shut out access to my prayers from reaching Thy realm and not to disgrace me by exposing those hidden ones of which Thou hast knowledge nor to hasten my retribution for those fua and misdeeds committed by me in secret which were due to evil mindedness, ignorance, excessive lustfulness and my negligence.
And over minds encompassing knowledge of You until they have become humble. Nor has such been reported — thanks to Your bounty — concerning You, O All-generous! Ali asked Kumayl to sit englush, record and duaa the du’a which he dictated to Kumayl. English Translation of Dua Kumail – Wilayat Mission
How many ugly things You have concealed! But You—holy are Your Names—hast sworn that You wilt fill it with the unbelievers, Both Jinn and men together, And that You wilt place those who stubbornly resist therein forever. Skip to main content. For the kumwil and severity of chastisement?
Far be it from You! O Allah, my tribulation is tremendous, And my bad state is excessive, And my fetters have tied me down, Englieh my far-fetched hopes have held me back from my gain And this world with its delusions, my own soul with its offences and my delay have deceived me.
Thou hast imposed it, to bestow upon me this night and this very dnglish the forgiveness for all the transgressions that I have been guilty of, for all the sins that I have committed, for all the loathsome acts that I have kept secret and for all the evils done by me, secretly or openly, in concealment or outwardly and for every evil action that Thou hast ordered engllsh two noble scribes to confirm whom Thou hast appointed to record all my actions and to be witnesses over kumsil along with the limbs of my body, whilst Thou observeth over me besides them and wast witness to those acts concealed from them?
And You— majestic is Your eulogy— said at the beginning and wernt gracious through kindness as a favour. A du’a may address God in any circumstance to which one may be afflicted.
But You —holy are Your Names—hast sworn that You will fill it with the unbelievers. And over tongues voicing sincerely the profession of Your Unity and giving thanks to You in praise. I beg Thee as one who is passing through extreme privation and who supplicates his needs to Thee and his hope ukmail been greatly raised by that which is with Thee.
According to Allama Majlisi, Kumayl had attended an assembly in the Mosque at Basra which was addressed by Imam Ali in which the night of the 15th of Shaban was mentioned. I have stretched forth my hands therefore, by Thy honour, respond to my supplication and let me attain my wishes and, by Thy bounty, frustrate not my hopes and protect me from the evils of my enemies, from among the jinns and mankind o’ Thou! And that You will place those who stubbornly resist therein forever. That is not the concept held by us of Thee nor has Thy grace such a reputation nor does it resemble that which Thou hast awarded by Thy kindness and generosity to those who believe in Thy unity I definitely conclude that hadst Thou not ordained punishment for those who disbelieved in Thee, and hadst Thou not decreed Thy enemies to remain in hell.
And by the decision which You hast determined and imposed and through which You hast overcome him toward whom it has been put into effect. Other than Your acceptance of my excuse and Your entering me into the compass of Your mercy.
